Gnome Shipping Wars Interview
Have you had any trouble with height clearances? Bridges? Tunnels? Fast Food drive-thrus?
The clearance became an issue at our hotel-front drive one night in Michigan. We tried to valet park but the driver almost took the gnome’s head off! We didn’t let that hurt the valets tip since gnome one was injured.
Now that you’ve spent time with the Gnome, where do you think his final home should be?
My house in Texas! We have over an acre of land and it would be sad to have to say goodbye to the Gnome after this week. Please deliver to my address.
What does the #GnomeShipping music playlist sound like on the road?
We listen to all Texas country legends like Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, etc.
What’s the biggest issue you’ve had to face on the road so far? We hear the Gnome experienced his first blizzard!
Well when the Gnome was experiencing its first blizzard on the mountain, passes had gotten so crazy we considered, for our own safety, giving up. We had a full school bus lose control heading down the pass as we were headed up. We also had an out of control Honda Accord miss colliding with us head-on by mere feet! That blizzard was then trumped today by a blown wheel bearing on the trailer that was less than a minute from flying off on the highway. We had a trucker honk and point at it or we might not be here right now. The wheel might have shot off, really doing damage at highway speeds!
What’s the craziest thing you’ve seen someone do (in regards to the Gnome) since being on the road?
Well I have seen loads of Forever the Sickest Kids fans on this journey, and one in particular (who will remain nameless) brought the house down with excitement, freaking out at the opportunity to get a picture with the official Shippingwars Gnome!! That was cool! We have had crazy crazy reactions on the 1,000s of miles of highway! We get peace signs, waves, honks, laughs, videos, photos, high fives and other reactions I won’t mention here. When we stop and park the Gnome or pull into a truck stop we become the biggest life of the party (and no pun intended)! Free food, free meals at restaurants, free hotel upgrades, free coffees at Starbucks, free cheese from landmarks in Ohio, and free parking and admission to the Rock an Roll hall of Fame. Although the craziest thing was when we got pulled over twice in a 15 mile stretch in MI. They let us go both times with warnings.
What’s been the highlight of this journey so far?
The highlight of the Gnome journey was when we pulled into Toledo, OH. We had a guy start tearing up and jumping up and down screaming, “That’s da Gnome from da show! Film me- I told my homies dat dat was da gnome from dat show on A&E and I already got the DVR set!” So from his phone I filmed him to show all his homies, haha!
